Amazon Prime Day Deals 2017

Big box retailers like Lowe's, Best Buy and Home Depot, which all have 40 percent off deals on appliances until Wednesday, are competing, too. Don't be seduced by the excitement of the sale and its short-term deals or else you could end up wasting money on things you'll quickly regret buying.

The delivery specialist believes the spend will beat Cyber Friday and Black Friday figures, and is basing its estimates on Amazon's continued growth of $1bn every year. Prime is an annual subscription programme for free and faster delivery for Amazon's customers and was launched in India in July previous year. It's a limited-time, limited-quantity sale with an exclusive guest list - Amazon Prime members. There are plenty of other deals available to non-subscribers, as there are each and every day, but the cream of the crop is out of reach unless you subscribe to Prime.

It all starts at 6pm today and runs for 30 hours. Other ways to get Prime include a six-month free trial plus 50 percent off for students with a.edu email address.

This seems straightforward, but it's not.

This year, Amazon is promising "hundreds of thousands of deals" in total on Prime Day, although that's worldwide, so the India hasn't got quite that many on its own.
