The lack of air combined with record-high temperatures, humidity levels comparable to those you see in a desert, and wind gusts mean flawless conditions for wildfires, says Phillips.

Highway 97 is closed 2 km north of 100 Mile House at the Canim Hendrix Road intersection to Lac la Hache at the Timothy Lake Intersection.

Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says it doesn't look like the fire is going to let up anytime soon.

The blazes were scattered across hundreds of kilometers of the interior portion of the province, burning through bone-dry forests used for logging and rolling grasslands that are home to ranches.

Al Richmond, chairman of the Cariboo Regional District, said as of Friday afternoon no properties were at risk of burning, but officials issued the order to leave because of concerns about changing wind patterns and heavy smoke cutting off evacuation routes.

"We have tremendous sympathy for the challenges we are all collectively facing", Ranta said.

"Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and hopefully we'll emerge from this a healthier community in the long run". Of the 552 wildfires reported so far this year, more than 220 are now active.

Rice commends the District of 100 Mile House for doing "an excellent job of abiding by the evacuation orders".

Included in the alert are the communities of Forest Grove and the western part of Canim Lake.

The department for the fight against forest fires is estimated that the heat and dry temperatures that have prevailed in recent weeks about the province have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Road closures are in place to and from Cache Creek on Highway 1, 10 kilometres west of the town and five km to then east.
