Nicole Schwab, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Washington, D.C., field office, told Bloomberg News that agents had executed a court-approved search warrant in the vicinity of Main Street, Annapolis, where the fundraising firm is located.

The FBI raided a GOP consulting firm in Maryland on Thursday.

It is unclear what the FBI is investigating and what prompted the search warrant.

When news broke Thursday that the FBI had just raided a Republican consulting firm in Annapolis, Maryland, people across Twitter immediately leapt to one conclusion - the Russian Federation investigation. It comes right in the middle of the firestorm over the president's firing of FBI Director Jim Comey.

"This is a political fundraising swamp", he said. The lawsuit was later settled.

No word yet on whether there is a link between Strategic Campaign Group & former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Whether they're throughout town, across the state, or across the entire country, our engaging political strategies inform them of your campaign or organization's goals. The suit alleged that the PAC and Strategic Campaign Group failed to follow through on promises for an extensive media campaign on Cuccinelli's behalf.

Sen. J.B. Jennings, the Senate minority leader, said the firm had done work for the Senate Republican caucus.

"Our suspicion is that this is just a carry-over from that", Rogers said.

Cuccinelli sued Strategic Campaign Group in 2014, alleging that the company and a political action committee duped donors. Less than one-half of one percent of that money, $10,000, actually made it to the Cuccinelli campaign.

In addition, Strategic Campaign Group's Facebook, Instagram and Google Plus accounts have all been closed, and the firm made its Twitter feed private.

NBC reports that Cuccinelli claimed not to have been in touch with federal law enforcement officials in regards to Strategic Campaign Group, but that he is "curious" to see where the investigation goes.

"It was my hope when we brought our lawsuit to cast light on the dark practices of scam PACs". "I think the facts speak for themselves, and we tried to give the agents all the information they could possibly need".

Rogers was a senior consultant to one-time White House party crasher and former reality television figure Tareq Salahi's run for Virginia governor in 2013, according to a campaign news release.
